The ideas that were evident in this work was the notion of fall colors and incorporating a zentangle aspect into it as well. This project relates to my life in the way that I am noticing the change in leaf colors as the trees are changing with the fall season.

The leaves from outside inspired the fall colors also because of the fact that they were fall leaves that had fallen from trees and the negative space was shown on the paper when the leaves were outlined and traced along their edges. The other material that I used was watercolors. I used these because I knew that the red and yellow, if mixed would create a shade of orange if they overlapped and that was another color that screamed fall to me. I used different sized brushes to make different thicknesses for the patterns that I painted to create the zentangle.

For the lines of the leaves, I used a light pencil such as the HB pencil to form a light outline. Then, I began brain storming and immediately thought of fall colors–red and yellow and then orange. I began creating patterns and designs in each negative space section to form a zentangle. My project evolved when I realized that just creating patterns in the zentangle didn't highlight and isolate the leave negative space as I wanted it to. Then, I carefully (so nothing would smudge) went over the red pattern with yellow water color making sure not to add too much water, and it created a bit of an orange overlap which I liked because it gave it more of a fall vibe. Next steps for this project would be to possibly add black to the leaves for an extra emphasis on the negative space surrounding the leaves.
