Storm
9"x14"
This piece was truly expressive and I had no restrictions as to what I wanted to do with it. Of course, it started out as a drawing of me (blindly drawn) and a drawing of my hand as well–but of course without looking at the paper. When I saw what I had drawn for the first time I was shocked at how abstract it looked! What am I going to do with this I thought to myself. I started out with seeing my portrait as a person even though it looked a bit crazy. Then, I saw my hand as a cloud and thought that I could have the cloud raining upon the person.
This work was made by using water colors to create a stripped background with whatever colors I felt like using because I knew it was going to look abstract no matter what I did with it! I played around with using more water to create more of a wash and then using less water to create a stronger and more dark ton of the color. It was fun experimenting with the water colors and I liked the way it turned out in the end!
At first I just had one cloud, then I began dripping water down the background to see what would happen and I imagined lightening on the page. I then painted these drips yellow and painted a blue cloud above it to create a lightning storm! Then, I began playing around with splattering paint. At first it was just blue splatter paint, then I added another color–then another. Why not use all of them?! I had so much fun playing around with splattering drops here and there with whatever color I felt would make it the most vibrant and was so excited to see how it turned out. I loved the colors all together and felt like I made something cool out of a poorly drawn portrait and hand! A next step that I could do would to add some darker colors at the top and possibly create an ombre because I love the way it looks especially when using a tool like watercolors.
