Still Life Apple

Corner Perspective 7"x10"

The inspiration for this drawing is truly because I was sitting in my kitchen and the theme of it was perspective so I drew the perspective of me sitting in my kitchen and the corner of the kitchen. This project relates to my life simply because it is my house so if was familiar for me to draw and I sat in an area in my house where I could look at the kitchen while drawing it.

The drawing was made with pencil graphite and I tried to create darker and thicker lines in some areas and thin and light lines in others because this was the only material I used.

At first, I wasn't quite sure how to include depth perception into the drawing, but after drawing what I saw when looking into the kitchen, it began to have depth! Every so often, I would erase some lines and create an even greater image of depth and that is how I started to see the corner of the room. Next steps could be possibly adding color and different shades to add even more to the depth of this drawing.

Self Portrait 7"x10"

The inspiration for this drawing is, of course, myself! Looking into a mirror, I saw myself and the shape of my image, and began to sketch my self portrait.

I drew this portrait with pencil, especially so that if I made mistakes in the process of drawing my features–which I did–a lot, I could always erase them and start again. Pencil was the tool I used for all three of my time capsule drawings which allowed me to, yes make mistakes, but also play around with shading and sketching freely and having the option to always start again.

When creating my self portrait, I was a little nervous on if it would come out looking like me, but when I stuck t the features I was able to create something that was a bit close to my appearance (almost). I had struggles with proportions when drawing because sometimes one side of the face wouldn't mAtch the other, or I would end up looking like an alien with lopsided features. Next steps of this piece would definitely be using more technique to make it more proportional.

Still Life Apple 7"x10"

When drawing Still Life Apple, my inspiration was the fruit bowl on my kitchen table. I picked an apple to take out and set it on the counter. I wasn't sure how to draw it accurate, but I remembered art class in past years when we used shading to create shadows on still life objects.

I then used pencil as my tool when drawing it. I kept shading in mind when drawing the apple because I knew I wanted to use it. I sketched out my apple (which is when I learned that drawing a circle is hard!), and got to work creating the background which was, once again, my kitchen!

When drawing the apple, I wasn't quite sure how to make it look real, and I knew I needed to use tools such as shading that I remembered in past years to make it look as real as possible. Unfortunately, I only could remember the tool shading and even with that, didn't fully remember how to do it. Trying my best to create a shadow, I played with creating darker lines and harder strokes with the pencil to create the shadowing effect. I hope in the future to learn how to shade better to improve my skills! My next step would definitely be adding more detail to the apple to make it look more real by using tools that I will hopefully learn in the future.
