Ink, Charcoal, and Graphite on Watercolor Paper
The main idea that guided my artwork was replicating a picture I had taken of roses that were very special to me, and because flowers die I wanted to make some that wouldn’t. For the value strip, I used ink, charcoal, and graphite, and for the flower drawing, I used mostly charcoal and ink. for the value strip I played around with different ways to blend each of the materials, for example, I found that a paper towel was really good at blending the graphite, a paintbrush was very good at blending the charcoal, and a paintbrush was very good at blending the ink. For the flowers, I used different techniques of using charcoal, like for the darker flower I used the charcoal pencil, and for the lighter ones I shaves down the charcoal into a powder then used a brush and painted on the charcoal.
