Self Portrait

Paper, Graphite, Tortillon

9" x 12"

The main idea that guided this artwork was an assignment I was given in art class. I had to draw a self-portrait, though, not by looking at a photo. We had to draw it by looking in a mirror and drawing on paper, exactly what we saw.

The materials I used to create this project included a 9” x 12” piece of paper. I also used a graphite pencil and a shading tool called a tortillon.

The process of creating this artwork was fairly simple. I grabbed a piece of paper and sketched out my face shape by looking in the mirror. Once I figured out the placement of my facial features, I began to darken the lines. After I darkened the lines, I added some darker areas by shading to create some dimension. To complete this artwork, I simply added freckles, moles, and collarbones.

Still Life Drawing

Paper, Graphite, Tortillon

9" x 12"

The inspiration for this piece was an assignment I was given in art class. I had to choose an object (in this case a candle) and draw what I saw. I chose a candle to draw as my object because I thought it was a challenging way to show different angles and shading techniques.

The materials I used to create this project included a 9” x 12” piece of paper. In addition, I also used a graphite pencil and a shading tool called a tortillon.

To create this piece of artwork, I started by choosing an object to draw. Then, I got a 9" x 12" piece of paper. Next, I sketched out the basics of the candle. To do this, I used a small circular bowl to create a precise rim of the candle. Once I finished the sketch I darkened the lines and added shading to create dimension. To complete this piece, I drew a wood pattern as the surface.

Perspective Drawing

Paper, Graphite, Tortillon

9" x 12"

The main idea that guided this artwork, was an assignment I was given in art class. I had to choose a corner of a room and create differing perspectives. I chose the corner drawn (see above) because the room showed a perspective but so did the picture, hung.

The materials I used, included a 9" x 12" piece of paper, a graphite pencil, and a tortillon.

To start this project, I got a piece of paper and chose a corner of a room. Next, I sketched out the room onto the paper. Once I finished the sketch I darkened the lines and added shading to create depth. To complete this piece, I drew a plant as a decoration piece. The process of creating this project was somewhat difficult. The reasoning is that I had to look at the corner while getting the angles and dimensions of the room correctly.
