Musical Cubism

9" x 12"

Graphite pencil, sharpie, gold leaf

Gustav Klimt's artwork and the Cubism art movement was my main source of inspiration for this creation. Klimt is well-known for the use of gold in his paintings, while Cubism is famed for its geometric and abstract designs. Additionally, since I play the piano outside of school and have for nearly 9 years, I was able to express my love for the instrument!

The materials I used to create this project were graphite pencils, a fine-tip sharpie, tortillion, and gold leaf.

The process of this artwork was very fun! First I sketched out my design with an H pencil to ensure the lines were light and easily erasable. Next, I darkened the lines and used a tortillion to blend the pencil evenly. I used a fine-tip sharpie to go over and darken the musical notes, and I added gold leaf. To add the gold leaf, I applied a thin coat of glue and waited for 10-15 to wait for it to appear tacky. Finally, I placed the gold leaf onto the glued areas and scraped away any excess.
