Beautiful Oops

Angler Fish

Mixed media

9" x 6"

When I was brainstorming an idea for this design, I knew I wanted to make the ink spill into some sort of animal mouth. So, after doing some research I decided I wanted to draw an anglerfish around the "beautiful oops."

I used numerous materials to complete this project. I used graphite, colored pencils, a white gel pen, a fine-tip sharpie, and a thick-tip sharpie. All of these materials were used to create the final product.

To complete this Beautiful Oops project, I began by brainstorming ideas for my design. Next, collected a 9" x 6" piece of paper. Then, I sketched out what I was envisioning. Once I finished sketching, I colored my artwork with colored pencils. To add value, I shaded the anglerfish by adding darker elements to the farthest parts of it. For the background, I made the illusion that the fish was in deep water. I did this by adding dark values to some spaces and lighter values to others (see above). To finish the design, I added any final details. Firstly, I filled the empty space with a squid that I drew with a thick-tip sharpie. Then I added bubbles to make it look like the fish was in water. Finally, I outlined everything in a fine-tip sharpie.
