Cross Media Convergence is when companies come together vertically or horizontally. This occurs when multiple products come together to form one product with the advantages of all of them. Cross media convergence is important in production because when two major conglomerates join, they will attract a mass audience since they are well known. Because of this, more people are likely to watch the media and it will be more successful. This crossing of media will create more awareness for products of the film. An example of this could be the selling of merchandise and how this would make people aware of a film that is coming out. While the audience may not realize media is being crossed, it is the goal of creators to spread their media to as many people as they can; a lot of the time this is done through convergence. Mass convergence has even changed the way we receive data. As an example, instead of getting a news report from the television or a newspaper, we can access that same report from a television station on our phones or through social media. This can make it easier for the viewers to find what they're looking for, as well as for the creators to make more money. Because of this change, the audience have become creators themselves. From social media posts to memes, this convergence has been beneficial on a global scale. Another benefit of this is the widened limitations of traditional media by mixing in new media. This provides the latest content on an international level for people to access.
