Comedy, the act of amusing an audience, has been around since film has been made. The first comedy sitcom, Mary Kay and Johnny (1947), paved the way for future comedy shows and films. Some of the most popular comedies of all time, Dumb and Dumber, Caddy shack, The Big Lebowski, etc, have developed from old sitcoms such as Mary Kay and Johnny and continue to inspire future films. Unlike the early 90’s however, comedy is more available than ever. The use of humor in media is an amazing way to grab the attention of a viewer or audience and they are much more likely to remember the media opposed to a serious film. While my film’s main genre is a heist, I will make sure to include funny jokes or comedic effects to make sure my audience will both remember the content, and get a laugh out of it. Aside from film, comedy is often used in everyday advertisements. In advertising about commercial products, humor is a well used tactic given its ability to cut through message clutter, capture the audience's attention, and improve the viewer's ability to remember the messages. The use of humor in media can also be a very easy and amicable way of addressing complex issues. Comedy can break down social barriers and make it easier to start conversations in person as well as shown in film. Sharing or watching funny media is an easy way to express individual values as well as identities.
