"How did your production skills develop throughout this project?"
While beginning to make our film, we did not realize how much of a commitment it would really be. From the loss of time to the absence of a concrete script, we were in over our heads. Despite these challenges, our skills have more than developed and we now know what to look out for in future projects.
With the use of Sara's camera, we were not only able to easily film, but also learn camera shots and angles directly. By playing around with different lengths and focuses, my group and I were eventually able to get the hang of it. Through using the camera, we also realized how many times we would have to redo shots. Between constant laughing and forgetting our lines, we had dozens and dozens of retakes.
Aside from our camera skills, we also learned and developed better communication. Because no "very" specific jobs were handed out, we all worked as a team to tackle all aspects of film making. This included shooting, editing, researching, and planning. While I thought this would hurt us, it actually helped us collaborate ideas and come to a shared conclusion about our next steps.
Like my comic script shows, we did not have enough time to create a full script. We had a paper that included script ideas but realized it wasn't concrete upon meeting to film. While this worried us at first, we were quickly able to collaborate and plan ahead on the spot especially since most of the opening does not include monologue.
In the yellow box, the clock is personified as accepting defeat and this stood for our time management skills. Even though we planned extensively, we didn't take into account how dark it got early on. While we planned to go to a beach relatively far away to film, we ended up having to film in a plaza instead that was well lit. In the end, my group and I collectively agreed our filming locations were better spots regardless.
When originally deciding what I wanted to do for my third critical reflection, I had my mind set on a video. However, I came up with the idea of making a competitive comic strip that included aspects of our production and how they contributed to our film. To make this comic strip, I chose a template from Canva and revamped it with both images, and new texts. In conclusion, I'm glad I chose this option and it was really fun to make.
