Netflix, arguably the most popular streaming service, has gained millions of subscribers since the 2000’s when it started implementing its personalization algorithms. These personalized ads would recommend certain subscribers new content which matched their previous watches. In turn, they would get much more watch time since customers were being fed what they didn't know they wanted. Like Netflix, I generated a few genres, such as action, horror, coming of age, and heist. Then my group and I created a google quiz to test what people wanted to see in a film opening. I got many votes for both the heist genre and the action genre. While my group went with heist, it was important for us to get a census on what the public actually wanted to watch. Personalized content can be much more successful than trial and error with different films and shows. For example, if we were to choose the genre of horror for our film, some may have enjoyed it, but it wouldn't be as well liked as the heist genre since it was very highly voted. Another reason for Netflix’s popularity is how easy it is for viewers to access it. Previously, audiences could only watch certain media for a certain amount of time. Now, the audience is able to binge watch shows and pick up right where they left off just after they have finished an episode. Netflix can also be found on pretty much every search engine which makes it very accessible to its viewers. Our film will be found on YouTube once it's published, as well as have a link to be watched on my website.
