For this camera movement, I chose a tilt. A tilt is the vertical movement of the camera angle. To create a tilt, you point the camera up and down as opposed to moving the whole camera up and down. For my video, I tilted the camera down to show my wood floor and then back up towards my fish tank and tapestry. Opposed to a pan, a tilt can be more of a rigid motion to show up and down instead of a fluid side to side motion. This camera movement is often used in film to emphasize something that was off or even to make the shot look more interesting. In media, the tilt is often used to capture a character on a balcony or ledge. If they are standing somewhere up high, they may look down and the camera will follow their glance down vertically. A popular cliché is a character standing on the edge of a cliff and leaning too far to cause some rocks to tumble off. The camera can tilt to show the character on the side of the cliff, and then to the very bottom below them to watch the rocks fall. Another example would be the Star Wars films. They are known for tilting as being the opening camera movement as they follow the stars up, and then the spaceship downwards again. To obtain these camera movements, appliances such as cranes, dolly's, steadicams, or even hand held filming can be used. This technology ensures smooth and controlled shots without any wobbles or shakes.
