Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
What another busy and successful week at St Joseph's! We had a fantastic time celebrating World Maths Day this week. The children looked wonderful in their creative costumes and thoroughly enjoyed the fun maths learning activities throughout the day. A special thank you goes to Mrs LaTouche for organising such an engaging and enjoyable day that brought mathematics to life for our pupils. Congraulations to the winners of the Maths Trail Challenge and all who brough in a coin to partcipate. Do you remember how long the trail was? How are away was your estimate?
Year 5 delivered a truly sensational performance of Macbeth this week. The children's confidence, expression and understanding of Shakespeare's work was outstanding. This project has had such a positive impact on their learning, developing not only their literacy and drama skills but also their ability to work collaboratively and perform with confidence in front of an audience. I am incredibly proud of them and Mrs Winters and Mrs Parry too. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch them. Your presence meant so much to the children and it was wonderful to share this special moment with you.
Our Year 6 pupils are working incredibly hard to prepare for their SATs. It is important that they remain focused at this time, getting plenty of rest, eating well and maintaining their positive attitudes to learning. I know that they will do well and we are so proud of their dedication and effort. Thank you for your continued support at home in keeping them settled and prepared. They are all saying they are confident and ready, which is good to hear.
We have developed new personal learning passports for children who need extra support. These passports will help us to work even more effectively with individual children to meet their specific learning needs. If you have any concerns about your child's development, please contact the school office or your child's class teacher and a member of the inclusion team will be in touch to discuss how we can best support your child.
We would like to wish all our children participating in the London Mini Marathon the very best of luck. A special thank you goes to Mr Abrahams for his time and dedication in taking the children and training them for this exciting event. We are so proud of their commitment and determination. I can't wait to see you medals! I am sorry I cannot join you, I am away at a leadership conference this weekend.
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Mrs Ashley and the Team

At our school, we are passionate about promoting inclusion not just within our classrooms, but across the wider community. We are proud to share opportunities that reflect our values—where everyone is welcomed, supported, and able to take part. One great example of this in Croydon is highlighted below:
Museum of Croydon – Family Art & Craft Sessions
📅 Next session: 9 May 2026 (and running regularly)
📍 Croydon Clocktower
🔗 https://museumofcroydon.com/whats-on-listings
These sessions are free, welcoming, and suitable for primary-aged children and families. They include creative activities such as drawing, crafts, and exploring art together in a relaxed environment. The sessions run regularly (often every other Saturday), making them accessible for lots of families.
Reception had an opportunity to learn about and take part in Futsal football. We learnt to control the ball, dribbled around cones and finally score some goals. It was great fun and we worked hard balancing and negotiating where we wanted our ball to go.
We were delighted to join a virtual author and illustrator workshop with the creators of the hugely popular Dexter Procter series. The children were captivated as Henry shared how he brought the story to life with an engaging draw along session. Pupils learned how to sketch their own character inspired by Dexter Procter. It was wonderful to see the children display their creative talents.
Year 4 pupils have been immersing themselves in the exciting world of How to Train Your Dragon as part of their English and reading comprehension lessons. Through this engaging text, the children have been explored the story in depth, focusing on key characters and identifying their unique traits. They have also been developed their understanding of how the setting influences the events and atmosphere of the story. It has been wonderful to see the pupils making thoughtful observations, using evidence from the text, and growing in confidence as readers and writers.
This week, Year 6 had the opportunity to watch the Year 5 production of Macbeth. They thoroughly enjoyed the performance, which was full of drama, humour and enthusiastic singing. We hope this experience has inspired them as they begin to think about their own production next term, and that they will perform with the same energy and confidence.
With just ten school days remaining until SATs, we are very proud of how hard the children are working. They are making a great effort to stay focused and engaged during lessons and booster sessions. To support their progress at home, we recommend a short daily revision routine: 10 minutes of reading, 10 minutes of arithmetic practice, and 10 minutes of grammar revision. Please check that your child has access to their SPaG.com login details. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Today marked the end of a fantastic term of maths learning at St Joseph’s, celebrated with an exciting and fun-filled World Maths Day! The day was packed with a variety of engaging activities, including puzzles, games, quizzes, Easter egg hunts with a mathematical twist and friendly competitions that challenged and inspired all of our learners.
The children's wonderfully creative maths-themed costumes showcased their imagination and enthusiasm, and added to the excitement.
We were incredibly proud to award certificates and prizes to children for their outstanding efforts, including Fantastic Problem Solvers, Multiplication Superstars, and Best Maths Costume. A highlight of the day was the Coin Trail Challenge, where children got to estimate the length of the coin trail and how much money was raised for charity (thank you all for your contributions). The winners were Martha (Year 3) and Andre (Year 6).
It was a joyful celebration of learning, creativity and teamwork—what a brilliant way to end the term!
