Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
What a remarkable week it has been at St Joseph's. There is so much to celebrate and share with you, alongside some important reminders as we continue through this busy term.
This week, our children completed their assessments, and I want to say a huge well done to every single one of them! They approached their assessments with focus, resilience and a positive attitude. We are incredibly proud of the effort and learning they have demonstrated.
I'm particularly proud of Year 1 for completing their phonics assessments, Year 2 for sitting their SATs and Year 4 for undertaking the multiplication times table check.
On Monday, we were moderated by the Local Authority for phonics. I am pleased to report that we did very well and were fully compliant. This is a great achievement and reflects the hard work of our staff and children alike. Well done to everyone involved and Mrs Tope who lead Early Reading.
We recently underwent a health and safety audit review, and I am pleased to share that great strides are being made in this important area. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our children and staff remains a top priority, and we will continue to work diligently to maintain the highest standards.
As many of you will be aware, finances are difficult for many schools at this time. We have not been immune to these challenges. However, I want to reassure you that we have been able to make cost savings whilst maintaining staff numbers and, most importantly, not compromising the quality of education your children receive.
This has been challenging, but our staff have pulled together to make it work. Every decision we make is guided by what is best for our children, and I am grateful to our dedicated team for their flexibility, commitment and professionalism during this time.
Our Year 6 children have returned from their PGL outdoor learning adventure to the Isle of Wight, and I am delighted to report that the trip was an absolute triumph. The joy and laughter that filled each day was a testament to the wonderful spirit of our Year 6 cohort.
The children embraced new challenges with courage and determination. They pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, supported one another beautifully, and demonstrated the values we hold so dear at St Joseph's. I must confess, they even encouraged me to take on the giant swing - a moment of true fun for them and fear for me! It was deceivingly high.
I am beyond proud of every single child who attended. Their behaviour, attitude and enthusiasm were exemplary throughout. They represented our school magnificently and created memories that will stay with them for years to come.
My sincere thanks go to Mrs Winters for organising and MrAbrahams, Mrs Power, Mrs Marshal and Mrs Burgess who attended. Their dedication, care and commitment ensured that everyone remained safe and had an enjoyable, enriching experience. It was a privilege to share this adventure with our Year 6 children as they approach the end of their time at St Joseph's.
A Serious Reminder About WhatsApp Groups and Communication
It has come to my attention that several parents have been alarmed by communication from some parents in WhatsApp groups. Despite previous reminders, this behaviour is continuing, and I must now address this matter with the seriousness it deserves.
We cannot tolerate abuse of any staff member, nor derogatory comments about our school or its staff. Such behaviour is damaging to our school community and creates an atmosphere of negativity and mistrust that is harmful to everyone, particularly our children.
Every member of staff at St Joseph's is entitled to dignity at work, this includes leaders too. We work tirelessly to provide the very best education and care for your children, and we deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism at all times.
If you have concerns or issues, I urge you to contact the school office or your child's class teacher in the first instance. We are always willing to listen, discuss and resolve matters in a constructive and respectful manner. This is the appropriate way to address concerns, not through WhatsApp groups where misinformation can spread quickly and staff members can be unfairly criticised without the opportunity to respond.
I trust that this reminder will be taken seriously. We are all part of the St Joseph's family, and we must work together with kindness, respect and understanding to create the best possible environment for our children.
I pray that God helps us to work together in unity and respect, always keeping the wellbeing of our children at the heart of all we do.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

Domestic Abuse and the World Cup
With the World Cup having commenced, it is useful to bear in mind that such sporting events often lead to an increase in incidents of domestic violence. We all know that abuse is a perpetrator's choice, not a consequence of circumstance.
As a community we should keep an eye on neighbours, friends and famillies referencing tension at home.

Reception have started their new topic journeys. We made boats using a variety of materials and thought about where our boats could travel to. We would like our boats to go to Disney Land, Jamica and Nigeria where we can have a wonderful adventure.
🎉 Year 2's library adventure came to an epic finale this week! We've absolutely loved exploring West Norwood Library and diving into incredible stories together. This time, we played an awesome game of headbands – guessing tricky words all about libraries and the magical tales hiding on the shelves. We can't wait to get stuck into these stories and let our imaginations run wild with even more amazing ideas! 📚✨
Year 4 have been working incredibly hard this week as they completed their assessments. We are very proud of the effort and determination they have shown throughout. They have also performed well in their MTC tests and approached them with confidence and resilience. In science, they have continued to develop their investigative skills and deepen their understanding through practical learning activities.
Year 5 have come back with a great thirst to learn this last half term. We have focussed on grammar in our writing, and perimeter in Maths. We started Science on Human Timeline and discussed how we change as we age.
