Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
On this beautifully, sunny day, on the last day of term, I want to extend a huge thank you to you, your children and the team on what has a been a very success term for the children.
The Y6 have completed their SATs with flair, we had lots of new children join our nursery class and school, Y4 went on their 1st residential and we had we worshiped together during our Marian Procession.
To celebrate the children's achievement and thank them for their hard work and behaviour, they had two enrichment opportunities this week.
All children partook in a Samba worship on Wednesday. I was able to join many year groups and it was great to see the happiness and enjoyment on the children's faces. Y5 have a gifted musical ear and could keep a rhythm sensationally and Sahara in Y6 took to the musical instrument playing and dancing with delight.
Today two Olympians visited the Federation and have spent the day doing workshops with the children and improving the children's fitness. This is closely linked to the Wellbeing focus we have across the Federation and our commitment to ensuring our children develop a healthy mind, body and spirit. Thank you Emmanuel and Richard for giving of your time to ensure our children have another amazing educational memory.
May is the month of our Mother Mary. Today our Marian procession was wonderful as always and children, staff and parents joined together to worship. The children sang beautifully and I am so grateful to our prayer leaders for how they read beautifully and lead us all in prayer. Thanks to Mrs Phillips, Mrs Winters and Mr Teles and all who helped to organise this wonderful
celebration.
Thank you to all the children who represented the Federation in the Umbrella Trust's Netball and Football competition last weekend. You played really well and we proud to have you representing us.
The PTA has had a relaunch and Mrs Steen-Plomer has kindly stepped in to lead it. This change has been warmly received and reinforces the partnership between the schools and out parents. We will send a letter about it and as parents of the federation, you are all part of the PTA within this is in your capacity as a helper or if you want a more formal role. If you would like to be more involved with supporting the PTA please complete this form.
I am so grateful to the PTA, who did a uniform sale yesterday and raised an impressive £250 for the schools! I would also like to extend a huge thank you to Chanine and Natalie who gave so freely of their time and led the PTA well.
To celebrate all the hard work happening and our 4 successful inspections, we will be combining our Annual colour run, with a celebratory picnic and summer fair! There will be stalls, boucy castle as well as other fun things. It will be on Saturday 5th July and we hope that you can make it! Tickets will be limited to ensure safety and will go on sale soon.
We would like too say a special "Thank you" to Klaus and Zane's dad and Mark's brother for helping our premises team to unload the donation today. They have given up their time to support us. We are very lucky to have such amazing community here at St Joseph's. Thank you to the parent who arrange this donation for us. They do not want the fuss of being mentioned, but we want them to know that they we will be forever be grateful and children and going to benefit from their kindness and generosity for years to come. Thank you To Mr Teles and Mrs Piscoe for helping with the delivery.
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson. I told her about the hard work being undertaken at St. Joseph's and how special our children are. She thanks us for our hard work, commitment and dedication to improving the lives of our children.
Today we have been featured in the guardian newspaper for the achievements of us all! Please have a read of the article. Thank you Mrs Daniels for being inspired to share the St. Joseph's story, the work and achievements of our school community.
Together we can, together we will.
We pray you and your family have a fantastic half term,
Mrs Ashley and the Team
The children and adults have been really supportive this week as it's been SATs week. We have all agreed it was a lot better than we thought, and we are all pleased with how it went.
We celebrated with a party and a film.
We are so proud of everyone. Well done!

The nursery would like to say a massive thank you to Ola's mum who has kindly donated coloured balloons for the outdoor area. The wall art is stunning and we are extremely grateful for this generous gesture. Exploring the wonderful world of colour is a big part of our curriculum recognising and naming colours, understanding colour patterns and how colour is used in the world around us.
We’ve had an exciting and creative week in year 1!
In maths, the class explored multiplication and division through a series of fun, hands-on activities. We started with 'Double Trouble', using numicon pieces to understand number doubles. We then used counters to investigate equal groups and learned how multiplication works by grouping objects. Counting in 5’s on special boards helped us recognise patterns and improve our speed. One of our favourite tasks was matching representation cards to find out how multiplication and division are connected. Everyone finished this weeks sessions feeling confident and eager for more!
In English, we’ve been planning our 'Big Write'. We’re using the same characters from our previous story, 'Grandad's Island', but sending them on a brand-new adventure with a different plot. The class is full of exciting ideas and ready to bring their stories to life.
In art and design, we’ve been learning about primary and secondary colours, experimenting with how to mix and create new shades. Our final goal is to recreate 1958–59 by Jasper Johns. The children have really enjoyed exploring colour and are looking forward to completing their vibrant masterpieces.
Well done year 1, we're so proud of you!
Year 3 pupils have had a wonderful half term filled with exciting learning experiences. Yesterday was especially memorable as they took part in a lively Samba workshop. The children had a fantastic time exploring the vibrant rhythms and sounds of Samba music. Each child had the opportunity to try out different percussion instruments. They also learned the names of the instruments and discovered that Samba music originates from Brazil. It was a joyful and educational experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. To finish the term, the children were very privileged to have a P.E session with the Paralympian, Emmanuel Oyinbo-Coker, the Great British sprinter. Emmanuel is also a Commonwealth Games champion and a multiple-time winner at World Para Athletics events.
Year 6 have had a well-deserved, exciting week now that the pressure of the SATs is finally over! We revealed that our end of year performance will be 'The Greatest Showman' and the children have started to prepare for their auditions by practicing songs (very enthusiastically!).
Year 6 also enjoyed a Samba workshop this week, being led by an expert to create some amazing music. On top of this, they were visited by two Olympians who led a sports session with them!
This summer term has begun with many year groups learning, developing techniques and using their creative minds to make sculptures and 3D structures.
Reception children have been exploring the malleable qualities of playdough and clay, developing their fine motor skills and creativity. Through hands-on activities, they've learned to manipulate these materials using various tools and joining methods, enhancing their ability to shape and form animals. Their final creations are a series of planned, sculptured and painted clay animal sculptures. They really are wonderful!
Year 2 children have been developing their skills, learned in Reception, by focusing on manipulating clay into decorated tiles. The children have been using a variety of methods including pinching, rolling, mark making and scoring. They were all very pleased with their work and managed to paint their tiles before taking home to show family and friends.
Year 5 children have been developing their sculpture knowledge by looking into installation art. They have been able to identify and compare art installation, explore different spaces within and outside the classroom. They have been working with peers using problem-solving in planning, constructing and presenting their installations using chairs. Parents have been invited to view the children's work and I know all are very excited to receive feedback for their creations.
