Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
As we reach the end of another wonderful term at St Joseph's RC Junior School, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that we've achieved together and to wish you all a very happy Christmas.
What a joy it has been to witness our pupils' performances this week! Our Junior Christmas carol concert was absolutely excellent, showcasing the talent, dedication and enthusiasm of our children. The Infant Christmas carol concert was equally wonderful, and it was heartwarming to see our youngest pupils sharing the festive spirit with such confidence and joy.
A huge thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to prepare the children, and to all the families who came along to support these special events. Your presence made them truly memorable occasions.
Despite the high levels of sickness the staff and children have achieved so much:
Foma (Y6) came 2nd in Catholic Schools General knowledge quiz, our children took part in Young Writers contest and over 60 had their work published! Mrs Mapp completed her National Professional qualification of Senior Leadership.
We became Catholic Rugby champions and our children did so well in the Cross country Championships Milena and Gabriel achieved 1st place and Jacob D 3rd!
We have raised over £2000 for charities in line with our Catholic Social Teaching
Olympian Georgia Hunter-Bell came to visit us and our Insta video gained over 11k views.
Our attendance figures are improving and children know the importance of being in school on time every day.
Thank you to all our pupils for their hard work and positive attitudes throughout the term. Thank you to our dedicated staff team for their continued commitment to providing the very best education and care for our children. And thank you to all our families for your ongoing support and partnership with the school.
As we break for the Christmas holidays, I hope you all enjoy quality time with your families and loved ones. May this festive season bring you peace, joy and happiness.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on 6th January 2026 for the start of the spring term. Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
I hope you enjoy the highlight reel below.
With warmest wishes for a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year,
Mrs Ashley and the Team

A Retablo is a small picture or model of a religious scene from South America. Nursery had homework to make one and made these amazing creations with their families and the results are beautiful.
This week in geography, year 1 had a lot of fun creating a simple map of the play ground. They used simple shapes or symbols, directional language to describe the location of features and they used simple shapes to design their maps. They could speak at length about what they had created. Year1 were very proud of their work!
Year 4 children took part in an exciting Design and Technology lesson where they designed and built their own pavilions using toothpicks and marshmallows.
The children carefully planned their designs, tested different structures and worked collaboratively in teams to bring their ideas to life. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, and the children showed fantastic enthusiasm and cooperation throughout the lesson.
This week, Year 5 have been getting in the Christmas mood. We've been rehearsing out songs for the concert and Im pleased to say, they sound wonderful! In English we started to write adventure stories. In Maths we have looked at equivalent fractions and how to represent them - honing in on our multiplication and division skills. We rounded off our Science and Geography learning with exciting inventions using different types of gears, levers or pulleys, and exploring the Alps and our local area.
We had an amazing time taking part in a Christmas Dram Workshop and the Santa Run!
This term, pupils across the school, from Reception through to Year 6, have demonstrated a high level of engagement and achievement in writing.
Our youngest learners have developed confidence in early mark-making and phonics-based writing, while pupils in Key Stage 1 have produced a range of imaginative stories, poems and descriptive pieces, using increasingly varied vocabulary and sentence structures.
In Key Stage 2, pupils have written thoughtfully across a wide range of genres, including narratives, persuasive letters and detailed setting descriptions, showing clear awareness of audience and purpose. Across all year groups, pupils have taken pride in their work and shown creativity, progress and commitment to developing their writing skills, reflecting the strong focus on writing throughout the school.
