Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
What a wonderful week it has been at St Joseph's! A huge well done to our Year 6 pupils who completed their SATs this week in such a calm and positive manner. We are incredibly proud of how stress-free and focused they remained throughout the tests.
A special thank you to our dedicated staff who supported the children brilliantly, from providing breakfast each morning to ensuring smooth test administration, and to our wonderful parents and carers who ensured children remained settled at home and arrived punctually each day. Your partnership made all the difference in helping our Year 6s approach these assessments with confidence and composure.
We were delighted to welcome Mrs Doran-Hannon, the new Director of Education for our Diocease and Ms Epale, Head of Governance, to our school this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed talking to them about their learning and sharing what makes St Joseph's such a special place. It was wonderful to see our pupils articulate their love for our school community with such pride and enthusiasm.
Thursday marked the Feast of the Ascension, an important celebration in our Catholic faith. The Ascension commemorates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven 40 days after his resurrection on Easter Sunday. This feast reminds us of Jesus's promise to be with us always and prepares us for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We reflected on this significant event in our collective worship, thinking about what it means for our faith journey and how we can continue to follow Jesus's teachings in our daily lives.
We're sending our very best wishes to the children representing St Joseph's at the Catholic Umbrella Trust Football and Netball Competition on Saturday. We know you'll demonstrate excellent teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience. Enjoy the experience and make us proud!
We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Marian Procession on Monday. This is a beautiful opportunity for our school community to come together in prayer and celebration of Our Lady. Further details about timings will be shared separately.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

Nursery have been bubble painting in the sunshine! After blowing some colourful bubbles we caught them on paper, creating some beautiful artwork. It was lots of fun!
🎉 Year 2's library adventure came to an epic finale this week! We've absolutely loved exploring West Norwood Library and diving into incredible stories together. This time, we played an awesome game of headbands – guessing tricky words all about libraries and the magical tales hiding on the shelves. We can't wait to get stuck into these stories and let our imaginations run wild with even more amazing ideas! 📚✨
This week, Year 3 pupils have been exploring Portuguese vocabulary linked to leisure activities. They learnt and practised phrases such as “play on a computer,” “play an instrument,” “ride a bicycle,” and “learning.” Through a range of fun and interactive activities, the children built confidence in both recognising and pronouncing their new vocabulary.
In music, pupils focused on rhythm, using clapping activities to identify and accompany different rhythmic patterns. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork during the sessions!
Year 4 have had a short but busy week. In English we have worked hard to complete our fabulous dragon stories, full of excitement, wonderful descriptions and imagination and continued to read 'How to Train Your Dragon'.
In maths we are learning about equivalent fractions and have found that knowing our times tables helps with this. Please remember that we have the upcoming Multiplication Check at the beginning of June, so the children need to continue practising their times tables in order to do well.
We are so proud of Year 6! This week, Year 6 took their SATs exams and we cannot be any more proud of them. They approached the week with such maturity and grace that we know they will do us all proud. On Friday, we celebrated Ascension, which was a wonderful way to end such a challenging, but special week.
