Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King. People at the time didn't realise that Jesus was a different kind of King, a King of peace and love. As we prepare for advent, we will be reflecting on how we can follow the example of Jesus and be more loving towards our neighbours.
Improving children's fluency in Mathematics has been a huge focus across the Federation. Teachers have been working hard to facilitate the children's ability to apply and utilise their mathematical knowledge in different contexts. It has been great to see the children grow in confidence and develop their mathematical thinking.
We have been selected to take part in the Southwark Diocese Advent Service! This is such a huge honour and privilege. On 6th December, our Y4 children lead a section of the service at St. George's Cathedral. They have be practising their song and readings in order to ensure they represent St. Josephs brilliantly and bring the joy of advent to others.
We have had several applicants from people wishing to undertake work experience at St. Joseph's. Ms Johnson, Ms Lodge and I welcomed many of them to tour the schools last Friday. Hopefully, they will be starting with us soon. This week we also had a visit from one of our ITT Partners at London Metropolitan University and they commended us for not just having high standards and an ability to develop great teachers, but for our nurturing, compassionate approach. Feedback like this, motivates us all.
Christmas arrived at St. Joseph's this week! It was wonderful to see the children's faces as they saw the trees and decorations. Thanks to all the staff who made this possible, especially Ms Johnson, Mr Teles and Mr Piscole. We hope that Santa visits us in person this year. If you know anyone who'd be willing to ensure he visits, please let us know.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend,
From Mrs Ashley and the Team
St Joseph's Federation is working very closely with Croydon Council to promote that we are a 'safe' school.
Safe spaces in school is a reminder to ALL of our families that St Joseph's Federation is a place that you can seek advice, support and signposting to relevant support services if you are experiencing domestic abuse.
It is also an opportunity to talk about the wider support for your children as they are victims in their own right.
As always, our friendly team are here to support.
Reception have been learning that triangles and circles are shapes that we can find all around us in our environment. We saw triangles on our shed rooftops, road signs and the the bunting in our classroom. These shapes have three sides and three corners, which make them special and easy to spot. We also saw lots of circles, we spotted clocks, our water bottles and tyres in our playground. We drew circles and triangles outside with chalk and drew pizza, doughnuts, smiley faces, the sun, flags and lots more. By noticing these shapes, we can learn how they help make our surroundings more interesting and functional. Exploring triangles and circles helps us understand the world better and notice patterns in nature and design.
KS1 Enjoys the Early Years Nativity Show
KS1 had a fantastic time watching the Early Years’ Nativity Show! The performers lit up the stage with their brilliant acting, singing, and festive costumes. The audience loved every moment, clapping and cheering for the amazing show. Well done to the Early Years team for a marvellous performance!
We were also hard at work creating art for our Christmas performance backdrop. We made stars and bells by sticking, cutting, shaping, joining and threading.
Year 4 have had a very busy week. To end last week, they enjoyed a trip to the cinema to see Despicable Me 4 which was enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you to the adults who gave up their time to accompany us.
This week, they have used their scientific knowledge of electricity and electrical components to create circuits power light bulbs, have been learning about grammar techniques in English to identify conjunctions using the acronyms 'FANBOYS' and 'ISAWAWABUB'. and have been recalling multiplication and division facts for the 7, 9 and 11 times tables.
Year 6 had a trip to the cinema on Thursday as part of the INTOFILM festival. We watched Kung-Fu Panda 4, which we all enjoyed.
This week in English, we have started our unit on speeches, and have watched some insightful and thought provoking speeches delivered by adults and children.
Our work on Fractions is continuing in Maths. The children have really showed a solid understanding of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
In RE we continued learning about Justice, focssing on the inspiring life of Oscar Romero.
