Well done to the children and parents in these classes!
Dear Parents/Carers,
What a joy it has been this week to see our Senior Pupil Leadership Team helping with the set up of our new library! Their enthusiasm and happiness has been infectious as they've been smelling and stamping books – it's wonderful to witness their genuine excitement about reading and our new space. If any parents would like to volunteer to help with the library set up, please let us know via the school office. We'd love to have your support.
We will be sharing information about class organisation for next year shortly, along with details of our parent transition meeting. We've been reflecting on parent feedback about how we can improve our communications with you, and we're taking your views on board as we plan for the year ahead. A letter with full details will follow soon.
We're delighted to announce that we'll be running our own Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) club for 4 weeks this summer – it's great to have this provision back at St Joseph's! Children eligible for Pupil Premium will be automatically enrolled, and all children are welcome to attend. All children who attend will be provided with lunch. More details and booking information will follow shortly.
I wanted to share some exciting news with you about my role beyond St Joseph's and how this benefits our school community. Last year, I was elected as a National Executive member of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT). I am proud to be the first Afro-Caribeean person to serve on this board.
This role has raised the profile of St Joseph's at a national level and enabled me to meet with Department for Education (DfE) officials and ministers, ensuring that the voices of schools like ours are heard at the highest levels. It has put me at the forefront of decision-making in the education sector, allowing me to advocate for the wellbeing of teachers and leaders for the betterment of children and the system as a whole.
I have been selected to participate on many DfE roundtables where I have challenged policies and contributed ideas to improve outcomes for all children. Currently, I am part of the working group for the Schools White Paper, focusing specifically on the government's plans for SEND and Inclusion across the country.
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, father figures and male role models in our school community. We hope you have a wonderful day on Sunday. Thaks for all you do for our children.
Our Father's Day breakfast is taking place on Tuesday morning, we are looking forward to celebrating you all. Tickets are still available – please contact the office if you'd like to book or see Arbor.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

Reception have started their new topic journeys. We made boats using a variety of materials and thought about where our boats could travel to. We would like our boats to go to Disney Land, Jamica and Nigeria where we can have a wonderful adventure.
Year 2's library adventure came to an epic finale this week! We've absolutely loved exploring West Norwood Library and diving into incredible stories together.
This time, we played an awesome game of headbands – guessing tricky words all about libraries and the magical tales hiding on the shelves. We can't wait to get stuck into these stories and let our imaginations run wild with even more amazing ideas!
This week, Year 3 have been learning about what it means to be a Christian in RE. In English, they have been using the exciting book The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers to inspire their writing.
In Reading, the children have been enjoying A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond and have been developing their comprehension skills through discussions and activities based on the story.
Year 5 have come back with a great thirst to learn this last half term. We have focussed on grammar in our writing, and perimeter in Maths. We started Science on Human Timeline and discussed how we change as we age.
