What is Gaisce?
Gaisce is an award given that Transistion year students in our school are given the opportunity to obtain. Gaisce is obtainable in three different levels bronze, silver and gold. Gaisce specializes in three different aspects of improvement for young adults, community involvement, personal skill and physical recreation.
Our school offers students the chance to obtain the bronze award. The requirments for the bronze reward are as follows:
1 Hour of Community Involement per week for 13 weeks
1 Hour of a Personal Skill per week for 13 weeks
1 Hour of Physical Recreation per week for 13 weeks
After the first 13 weeks, participants must choose one of their three prior activities to continue doing for another 13 weeks
In total these these activities will last for 26 weeks. In the first 13, participants will do 3 activities for 1 hour a week. In the second 13 weeks, participants continue to do only one activity they were previosly doing for 1 hour a week
The final requirement for the bronze Gaisce award is after the 26 weeks, participants partake in a hike. The hike is a minimum of 25km and lasts for 2 days, 1 night.
