Being a Community School, St. Colmcille's makes a great effort to get involved with local events, support local businesses, and make Knocklyon a better place for everyone.
As part of this, we as TYs spend a term working in the community, whether that be in a charity / charity shop, a local sport's team, or helping older people in the area like grandparents.
Some students choose to work in charity shops such as St Vincent de Paul and the Irish Cancer Society as part of their community care term. The experience of working in a charity shop is valuable to our TY students as it can be rewarding to give back to the local community as well as providing experience working in the retail business.
The Knocklyon area has a great selection of sports teams, between Ballyboden St. Enda's, Éanna Basketball, and Knocklyon United.
Some TYs who grew up playing for these clubs choose to lend a hand to their clubs for this module.
A lot of students choose to help their grandparents, or older members of their family, for this module.
It is a great experience to spend time with people you care about, hear their stories, and make their week a little bit brighter!
