In art in TY, the class partakes in a lot of different projects that may or may not be repeated in other ty groups. For example, we have painted the backdrops for the musical, which you can read more about in the musical section on this website. We have also painted a mural on a wall behind the school and worked on props and backdrops for the TY Graduation
Week 1: On the 6th of November 2024, a Muralist called Juliet came in to talk to the art class about painting a mural in the school. She showed us her works and then split us into 3 groups to start brainstorming ideas. At the end of the class, we handed up any ideas we thought of.
Week 2: Juliet worked on our designs in her own time and came back with 3 gorgeous murals that we will be sketching and painting over the next few weeks. During the week between our classes, a group of girls in our class took time out of the day to prep the walls by painting them white and drawing the grid onto them. We started sketching the actual designs onto the wall during our second class and just finished before the class was over.
Week 3: We started painting the background colours, as well as any finishing any sketches from Week 2.
Week 4-6: The next 2 weeks were spent painting in the colours. Here are the final results!!
The two backdrops and some of the bigger props in the Musical were chosen and created by the TY art class. In the first class we watched the movie version of the Musical and decided on the two most prominent backgrounds. After that we spent our Wednesday afternoons scraping old paint of our canvases, painting them white, deciding on the final designs and painting them on. We chose one of the scenes to be in a desert, and the other to be in the Pharaoh's palace. We also made pyramids that can be moved on and off stage. Some of us were asked to help with ironing and folding the costumes, which also took a lot of time. The art class worked hard and even took time off classes to make sure everything was perfect for the Musical.

Junk Kouture is a competition to turn waste into fashion!
While St. Colmcille's competes most years, it is not competing this year.
The Art class is in charge of making the icons used to represent each student. This year the grad theme is based on Grease. Each class has a different icon to represent them, and because the theme is Grease, we chose to use a milkshake, car, jukebox and disco ball as the icons. The backdrop is based off the diner in the film.
These are the kind of projects you should expect to do if you choose art for TY!!
