Learning Outcomes for the Academic Year

• Students will become more autonomous in their study of Spanish by engaging in a range of activities and project work incorporating pair and group work.

• Students will be able to engage in conversation on a range of subjects (themselves. Family, school, their area, the working world, holidays, leisure- time activities

• Students will have an understanding of various aspects of Spanish culture / the civil war (film, song, traditional fiestas, etc).

• Students will be assessed over the four terms for TY. 

Assessments 

• Assessment 1= Prepare poster about Spanish speaking country and present to class. (100%)

• Assessment 2- Film reviews (el Orfanato/  Motorcycle diaries) and oral questions (100% in total)

• Assessment 3= Diary entry20%/ present perfect tense20%/ 2 future tenses40%/20% Description a famous Spanish speaking person.

• Assessment 4= Oral examination 100% (use questions from Assessment 1)​

​*Please note that in term 2 one teacher will cover Motorcycle diaries and the other teacher will cover The Orphanage for the film module. The two classes will change teachers in January. Therefore, each teacher can repeat the film module with the other class.

Term 1: 7th September - 16th October

Aims:

•   Assessment 1  Project on chosen Spanish Speaking country 25%/ This is to be presented in front of the class 25% . Students will write up a phrase book for when they go to Madrid 50%

  Aims:

• Students will learn about various different Spanish Speaking countries

• Students will revise the present tense and adjectives

• The project must be written up in Spanish

• Prepare a travel booklet for Spanish trip (FOR ALL STUDENTS)

• Understand about globalisation and its impact on languages

• Take part in the organisation of activities for Language Week

• Learn new vocabulary relating to the topic

• Improve listening skills

• To learn about famous places in Madrid

• Study the metro map in Madrid

• Write up a glossary of useful phrases to use when travelling

• Ask and give directions (useful for Spanish Trip)

  USE OF ICT= Students will use computer rooms to research project and write up their phrase books for the Spanish trip.

Term 2 - 2nd November - 22nd December

Aims:

• Assessment 2- Oral examination preparation and review of either The Orphanage/ Motorcycle Diaries
  (Numeracy: revise ordinal numbers)
  (ICT Oral questions to be typed up and sent via email to their teacher)
  
  50% for oral questions and 50% for film review. These will go into end of term reports.
  Topics for oral- yo mismo/ mi familia/ el colegio/ mis pasatiempos/ Las vacaciones
  Aims:
  To complete oral questions using the PC. They will need them for Term 4.
  To write up a phrase book and use it for when going to Spain in October.
  
  Objectives:

• Students will be able to write answers to a list of oral questions about themselves and ensure they are kept in their folder

• Students will be able to express their views on a film by building vocabulary and writing a film review.

• Students will improve their knowledge of colloquial language by watching extracts of a film

• All notes for films on shared drive

EXTRA: those who complete oral questions early, can start to practise in pairs.

Term 3 10th January to 15th March 

Oral Spanish Exam will take place with an External Examiner

Aims 

• La Comida - BBC - shopping for food

• Making Spanish food

• Host Spanish breakfast

• Spanish MUSICA

• Spanish Language day

• Students will consolidate the oral work they have done throughout the year by preparing for the end of year oral exam.

• This exam will test knowledge of the following areas: Yo mismo y Mi Familia / La Casa y Mi Barrio,  La Amistad, Mi Colegio y El Año de transición', Cursillo de trabajo y Mi trabajo, Mi Tiempo Libre  y El fin de semana, Mi Rutina Cotidiana y las Vacaciones.

Term 4 5th April to 17th May

Assessment4: Oral Spanish Exam will take place with an External Examiner ! Students will use the questions from Term two to guide them. For stronger students they can add to the questions or have more extended answers.

Aims  : To be able to hold a conversation in Spanish in a number of different contexts

Objectives

Students will

• be more confident using day to day Spanish

• be able to order food in a restaurant

• be able to prepare a Spanish recipe and bring dish into lesson

• gain confidence in conversational Spanish on a variety of topics (listed above) through pair work, group work, individual activities and aural activities.

Able to complete an oral exam with confidence  This exam will test knowledge of the following areas: Yo mismo y Mi Familia / La Casa y Mi Barrio,  La Amistad, Mi Colegio y El Año de transición', Cursillo de trabajo y Mi trabajo, Mi Tiempo Libre  y El fin de semana, Mi Rutina Cotidiana y las Vacaciones.
