2011 3rd Place 14&Under Girls Windy City Water Polo

Windy City Water Polo Club in Illinois serves Oak Park, River Forest, Chicago, and the entire Chicagoland area. The club began in 1987 by coaches Dave Perry and Jack Wagner.  Windy City Water Polo fields Senior/Masters level, 20 and Under, 18 and Under, 16 and Under, 14 and Under, 12 and Under, and 10 and Under teams for both boys and girls. We offer practices and competitions year round for athletes 14 years old and younger (12U and 10U), senior / masters women, and senior / masters men. We offer Summer and Fall water polo for high school athletes. Windy City Water Polo is unaffiliated with ANY high school or high school water polo program.  No high school athlete is required to participate with Windy City in order to participate with his or her high school team.  The club uses Fenwick High School's Dan O'Brien Natatorium for training (505 Washington Blvd., Oak Park, IL 60302). Please note that at this time, the HS Girls' Summer Team is invite only. The rest of our teams, 14&Under, 12&Under, 10&Under, HS Boys programs, and senior / masters programs for men and women, are open to all players.

Windy City Water Polo will be offering a water polo spring season in 2019.  We will be teaching the fundamental skills of water polo.  It is for boys and girls age 7-14, whom are not yet in high school, and will be held at Fenwick High School in Oak Park.  It will run from March 5 through May 5.  Practices will be held in the evenings on Tuesday nights from 7:15-8:30pm and Sunday 11:30-1pm) at the Fenwick H.S. pool (except Sunday, April 28 which is 3:15-4:45pm and followed by our summer registration meeting).  Cost for the spring season is $155.00; acceptable payments are cash, a check made payable to Windy City Sports, or payment via Chase QuickPay or Zelle to windycitywaterpolo@yahoo.com.  Please mail checks to Kyle Perry at Fenwick High School, 505 Washington Blvd. Oak Park, Il. 60302 or bring your payment with you on the first day, March 5.

The spring season is open to any girl or boy in grades 2 through 8.  The purpose of the spring season is to teach the youngsters how to pass, catch, dribble and shoot a water polo ball.  We will also be teaching the basic play of the game.  We will try to have some scrimmages in house or with other teams as well.  These can really help provide an introduction to the exciting game of WATER POLO!  Returning players will continue to sharpen their skills during our spring season.

For the 7-11 beginning level participants we will offer H2O Ball.  It is a fun way to introduce youngsters to the sport of water polo.

Windy City Sports will be offering water polo teams for boys and girls age 6-18 this summer.  We will be teaching the fundamental skills of water polo as well as playing in tournaments both locally and around the United States.  All practices are held at Fenwick High School in Oak Park (505 Washington Blvd. Oak Park, IL 60302).  Our summer season will run from June 3 through July 23.  Practice Times for HS Boys will be 7-9pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 6-8pm on Tuesdays.  Practice times for HS Girls will be 7-10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Practice times for the 14&Under, 12&Under teams will be 6-7:30pm on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays.  Practice times for the 10&Under team will be 6-7pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Rice, St. Patrick, Loyola, St. Ignatius, Lockport, Juarez, Maine South, Lincoln Park, York, Riverside-Brookfield, Maine East, Taft, Little Village, Neuqua Valley, Lincoln-Way Central, Curie, Latin, Mother McAuley, Evanston, Lake Forest, Whitney Young, Glenbrook South, The Hill School (PA), Waubonsie Valley, Morgan Park, Hinsdale Central, Prosser, St. Charles East, Wilson (PA), Von Steuben, Steinmetz, DeLaSalle, Shepard, Stagg, Blackfriars Priory School (Adelaide, Australia), Northside College Prep, Bremen, and Mt. Carmel.

At the collegiate level, WCWP has sent players to Varsity programs at Harvard University, Princeton University, Mercyhurst College, Iona College, Fordham University, Bucknell University, UC Los Angeles, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Loyola Marymount University, Washington & Jefferson College, U.S. Naval Academy, Johns Hopkins University, Pennsylvania State University Behrend, UC Santa Barbara, George Washington University, Santa Clara University, Indiana University, Colorado State University, University of Michigan, Villanova University, Gannon University, University of La Verne, University of the Pacific, Monmouth College, Concordia University - Irvine, Pomona-Pitzer, Marist, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, Carthage College, and University of St. Andrews, Scotland.  Matt Farmer recently helped UCLA win the 2014, 2015, and 2017 NCAA Championship.

At the club level, WCWP has sent players to Miami University, University of Michigan, Purdue University, Northwestern University, University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Western Michigan University, University of Iowa, University of Notre Dame, University of Dayton, Marquette University, Lewis University, St. Louis University, Western Illinois University, Colgate University, Syracuse University, Pepperdine University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Grand Valley State University, Tufts University, United States Military Academy, Illinois State University, Indiana University, Boston College, Lehigh University, Tulane University, Georgetown University, Texas Christian University, University of Chicago, Michigan State University, and DePaul University.

Three of our athletes have gone on to play professional water polo in Italy and Australia.  Matt Napleton (Fenwick '09) competed for Rari Nantes Savona in 2013-2014, and Chris Wendt (Fenwick '09) competed for Roma Nuoto in 2014-2015.  Most recently, Matt Farmer (Fenwick '13) competed for the Hunter Hurricanes in Australian's National Water Polo League 2017-2018, and is currently competing for Circolo Canottieri Ortigia in Italy.

Seven Windy City Water Polo Coaches have been inducted into the Illinois Water Polo Hall of Fame: Laura Coffman (1999), Joe Wendt (2000), Dave Perry (2002), Brian Pendergast (2003), Jack Wagner (2005), Mike Gruszeczki (2008), and Brigitte Kusevskis (2011).

  • SENIOR WOMEN'S SUMMER LEAGUE INFORMATION
    Games are ONLY 7pm & 8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
    First games on 6/17 and the championship tournament is on 7/20.
    Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 6 games.

    Cost is generally $25 for the summer but will depend on how many people join the team. If you want to play, please get in touch with Elizabeth Timmons.

  • Men and Women find success at the Two Daves Tournament!
    Windy City Water Polo's Senior Men's team finished as co-champions of the Two Daves Tournament which serves as one the main training opportunities for IHSA water polo officials.  The women finished 3rd over all.  More information can be found on our facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/windycitywaterpolo/ and Illinois Water Polo's website at: http://illinoiswaterpolo.net/two-daves-tournament-a-success/

    Men will continue to train on Sundays 1-3pm.  While the women's training schedule is still TBD, there are plans for the team to participate in the Chicago Park District's summer women's league again this summer!

  • Winter Water Polo Opportunities!
    14&Under, 12&Under, and 10&Under Sunday scrimmages will continue in January and February.  Please check the calendar for the most up to date schedule.  The normal time will be 11:30am to 1pm at Fenwick.  Cost is $5 per Sunday.

    Senior Men will begin open pools 1-3pm at Fenwick this Sunday, January 6.  Please check the calendar for the most up to date schedule.  If you are interested in being added to the senior men's list, please contact Kyle Perry.

    10&Under league will begin with games at Stevenson High School (1 Stevenson Dr, Lincolnshire, IL 60069) on Sunday, January 13th, 2019 with two fun games at 2:30pm vs. New Trier and 3:00pm vs. NIPC.  We hope all our 10&Under athletes are able to participate.  New players are also welcomed, and flotation devices for novice swimmers are allowed!  Cost is $5 per Sunday.  There are a total for 5 Sunday league dates.  Please check the calendar for the most up to date schedule.

  • Senior Men co-champions of the Dave Perry Classic!
    2018 Dave Perry Classic Champions - Windy City Water Polo

    The Senior Men's Team finished 3-0-1 to be crowned co-champions of the Dave Perry Classic two weeks ago at Fenwick High School.  The men's team defeated the Wildcats, Apostles, and Gators and tied the Club of Chicago.  Senior Men's practices will resume in January on Sundays from 1-3pm at Fenwick.  There is on final tournament opportunity to play water polo before the end of the year.  We have a coed team participating in the 2018 Holiday Classic at Lyons Township South Campus on Saturday, December 15th and Sunday, December 16th.  Schedule is as follows:

  • 14&Under Colorado Trip 2018
    2018 Fall 14&Under Windy City Water Polo Colorado Team
    Congratulations to our 14&Under Fall 2018 Colorado Team.  We played a lot of late night water polo (10pm and 11pm Chicago time!), went hiking, hit up the arcade, and even found some time to eat at an IHOP.  Thanks to all the parents who helped make the trip a success and the kids for all their hard work!
    With the fall season over, winter water polo begins this Sunday, December 2 at 4:30-6pm.  Cost is $5 each Sunday, and new players are ALWAYS WELCOMED!
