Some of my thought's on Photography.
I have always been interested in Photography, from childhood
regarding some of my uncles using 35mm manual cameras with
a sense of curiosity, how does such a small device work and
how can it capture and record photographs on a thin strip of
paper. Later as a teenager I bought a pentax espio 35mm compact
camera and I was hooked progressing quickly to a Canon Eos 300
35mm camera which I carried with me on all my travels. Then the
arrival of the digital compact camera and in 2000 I received a present
of a Fuji finepix 1400 compact digital and was hooked again, delving
into Photoshop and its amazing tools available to the photographer I
quickly upgraded my digital camera to a Fuji finepix 4900Z which I
used in the years ahead in unison with my Eos 300 35mm camera.
The beauty of photography is the diversity of your subjects one minute
your photographing your children playing in the back garden next your
on a beach at sunrise or sunset ' the golden hours ' waiting patiently for
just the right moment or exploring some old town while on holidays
hoping to capture some of its unique personality.
I would not consider myself an arty individual, I have learned everything
I know about photography from reading books and magazines like
Practical Photography, PhotoPlus and Digital Camera. Learning about
composition, camera functions and how to achieve the best from your
camera and how improve your photographs and photography in general.
At present I own a Canon Eos 60D and an Eos 5D Mk iii an Eos 1n and
a Eos 1v 35mm cameras as well as a Bronica etrs medium format
camera which I love to use when time and patience permits.
I use both Nikon and Canon cameras, after having problems with one
of my Canon lenses I have started to use my Nikon's more, a D500 as a
walk around and a Nikon D600 for landscape photography.
I love looking back at old black and white photographs and genuinely
impressed by the clarity and sharpness of photos taken up to and
over 100 years ago.
My digital darkroom consists of Photoshop CS3, Photoshop
Elements 12 and Lightroom 5. I try to keep image editing to a minimum,
mainly focusing on cropping, adjusting levels, brightness and contrast,
file and image re-sizing, framing and mono conversion.
