Brief History: The race was organised by Sue and Gerry Ashton for a few years. Unfortunately, the landlord of the pub decided he didn't want to host the event at the pub any more. From 2013 the race started at the riding stables further down the road, thus shortening the course. Rob Brown organised it from here for a couple of years and then Andy Creber one year. In 2023 the landlord changed at the pub so we were able to return to the original course. and host again from the pub. A local farmer was also willing for us to use a field for car parking not far from the start.
Current details: a new RO this year and a few changes, the event HQ will be in the parking field which is included in your entrance fee– no parking at the pub (its £5/car here). Registration will be here plus a toilet. There will be 3 hill marshals who will have first aid kits and radio contact. The start is in the same place in the lane behind the pub approx. 10mins walk. There will be refreshments at the HQ – tea, coffee water squash and cakes. Prizes will be available at the HQ - These can be collected if you need to leave early however there will be a presentation once everyone has finished..
Prizes – 1st 2nd 3rd MF, 1st V40/50/60/70+ MF, Teams 3 to count MF. One prize each so if a vet finishes in the top 3 places, the next vet in the category will take the prize.
The fantastic original route:
This is a classic horseshoe route suitable for runners of all abilities (in good visibility). It's all on defined paths much of which are 'improved'. The turn let and down west from the cairn from the top path near Pen Y Manllwyn is really only the non-obvious (and so relatively easy to miss) direction change) - but this will be marshalled so you won't go wrong. This turn, at an obvious and large cairn, leads you on to the well-known 'Dragons Back'. 3 marshals on the route at obvious turns.
