Race Information:

Route: A traditional fell race.  Glorious scenery into both England and Wales and taking in a short section of the Offa’s Dyke footpath.

The route starts by winding up through Cwmyoy village and passes the famous ‘wonky’ church. There’s then a steep climb up onto the Hatterall Hill ridge followed by some stunning ridge running. A little bit of route choice down to the final checkpoint – I’ve deliberately staged this race before the bracken is up – and then it’s flagged back to the Village Hall.

Please familiarise yourself with the nature of the fell race route. It is not a navigationally complex race in good visibility, but you should be aware of the route and where the checkpoints are.

Refreshments and prize giving (12.45 pm) will follow.

The route will be flagged outward until you meet the open fell and on the return from the ridge and after Checkpoint 2 through farmland.

Classifications: PM (Partially Marked) / LK (local knowledge advantageous but not essential).

Checkpoints: You are free to take whatever route you choose to checkpoint 2.  There are 2 marshalled checkpoints which you must visit and where your wristband will be bleeped (indicated on the map) and your number recorded.

Kit Requirements: as per FRA ruling,  please bring with you to the event:  waterproof whole body cover, hat, gloves, map of the route (this map here is fine), compass, whistle and emergency food. A decision will be made on the day depending on the weather what you need to carry, it’s usually only a waterproof top but the end of April can be a very changeable time of year and the weather and winds up high can be very different from lower down. Come prepared because your kit is no use if it’s at home.

Please note – there will be NO WATER STATIONS on the route. If you know that you need to carry water, please come prepared.

Please carry a lightweight waterproof/windproof jacket. [Other kit will be advisory on the day]

All FRA races strictly prohibit the use of electronic devices and the using of aids such as GPS for navigation. This race is covered by The Welsh Fell Runners Insurance Policy.

Sorry but no dogs allowed on the race: lambing time, sheep, ground nesting birds.
