The Cat’s Back fell race a.k.a. Ras Crib y Garth is a new race on one of the classic ridges of the Black Mountains.  The race starts in the Monnow Valley from Mountain Mayhem’s base at Tybubach, Craswall, Herefordshire.  It climbs steeply on footpaths through farmland and pockets of woodland before reaching the base of the ridge at the Cat’s Back car park.  From this point on runners are on the open fell following the classic ridgeline of old red sandstone all the way to the summit of Black Hill where it’s a quick ‘once around the trig’, a dib at the compulsory checkpoint and a fast return descent to the start field.

Some of the ground is rocky and technical so this event is not suitable for novice fell runners.  Full kit* must be carried and appropriate fell shoes should be worn.

The course will be partially marked and marshalled by volunteers from Longtown Mountain Rescue Team.  A donation will be made to Longtown MRT from race proceeds.

The race starts and finishes on private property.  Any recce runs must stick to the public footpaths.

Fabian 4 chip timing will be used. The race is run under WFRA* rules – Category AS / PM. Over 16’s only.  All competitors run at their own risk!
