Croutons are cheap and easy to buy but when I have left over breads that is ready to start staling, I use them to create these Easy Croutons.
Here's what I use:Day old French bread or loaf bread that is just about ready to start staling
Olive Oil
Salt, Freshly Ground black Pepper
Garlic Powder
Here's what I do:
Cut the bread into cubes. I like smaller cubes but cut larger size if you like bigger croutons. Place them into a large enough bowl for hand mixing.
Preheat oven to 400 F degrees.
Drizzle cut cubes with olive oil. No not soak or put too much but enough to lightly touch each bread piece. Salt and grind pepper and season with garlic powder. Hand mix and repeat if you have a large quantity of bread.
Spread evenly single layer the seasoned bread onto a sheet pan and bake it for 12-15 minutes (check it at 10 minutes as size matters). Remove from even when toasted and mostly firm. Let it set for 15 minutes to cool and complete cooking. Bag and store for up to a month.
