We've been staying in Burnet Texas for the past 6 days. Turned out to be another surprise location. As one local said, "this area is not the usual Texas" We're surrounded by green rolling hills, trees (lots of Oak) rivers, and lakes. A number of beautiful ranches & homes, sitting in the middle of acres & acres. This area is noted for it's wineries as well as a summer recreation destination. People come from all over to see the wildflowers in the Spring, then stay for the summer recreation & hot weather. Burnet is a small country town, (population 6000) not much choice in restaurants or shopping needs, but 9-miles down the road is Marbel Falls. Bigger tourist town, grocery store, Wal Mart and number of other shops. We were found a "Pro Cuts" and got pretty good hair cuts, and I finally found a good pair of walking shoes, but best of all we found two restaurants that specialize in serving fish. Yea! First fish dinners since we left California. One night fried shrimp & hush puppies and the next night a wonderful talapia rolled in cornflakes & pecans served over a orange/rosemary sauce - yum!
Not through with Texas yet, we leave tomorrow for San Antonio, spending the Holidays on the River Walk.
Merry Christmas y'all!
