We have left Santa Fe behind, but what wonderful memories we have. Two weeks in northern New Mexico was perfect. We visited downtown old Santa Fe Plaza, Georgia O'Keeffe museum, as well as her homes in Abiquiu & the Ghost Ranch, the New Mexico Museum, a Gallery that had Ansel Adams original photos, Bandelier National Monument, White Rock,Tahos and Los Alamos. The vistas are beautiful & well worth the trip. I still can't get over the red/purple/orange colored rock formations! If I had to choose a favorite location, it would be Georgia O'Keeffe country. Seeing her paintings in real life settings gave us a true appreciation of her work, and then to visit her home, it all came together.
We also got a great history lesson in Los Alamos. Renee didn't take very many pictures there. Most of the buildings during the time from 1942-1944 are all gone, but the museum had photos, letters, stories of what took place during that time. I had no idea that the men involved in the project brought their families - there were hundreds of people that "disappeared" into this canyon for 2 years. Many books written by wifes & children - check it out!
We stopped at a bar & grill in White Rock. While dining on yet again a great Southwestern meal, the owner introduced himself & asked where we were from. Turns out is spent some time in San Francisco. He & his wife are both 2-time Tack & Field Olympians and trained in SF. He remembered how cold in was, running in Crissy Field.
Take a look at our photo gallery - Renee has done a great job capturing our adventure.
Oh, the places we'll go.........
