We ended our visit to Virginia, in Roanoke. Took a drive along the Blue Ridge mountains, visited a Transportation Museum (sounds boring, but had model trains, vintage cars & trains) walked along the Roanoke River and had a picnic lunch with a view of "power plant" water fall. We had hoped for Spring weather in Virginia, but it was still cold & rainy most of the time.
We enjoyed our last day in old downtown, where they have renovated warehouses into science museums, butterfly exhibits and roof top gardens.
With a few hours left in the day, we decided to drive a few miles to Salem, where a limestone cavern was open for tours. The cavern was discovered in the early 1920's (two brothers & their dog) The temperature in the cavern was in the 50's, there were a lot of stairs, but it was just beautiful. We're glad we did the tour, but one time going underground is enough for us!
We enjoyed our time in Virginia, so much to see. So much History.
On to Washington DC......
