Our last planned visit was to Dorothy's lovely new home in the western Massachusetts town of South Hadley. She
has just moved back after almost 40 years in California and has been greeted enthusiastically by her sister Connie and a multitude of relatives and friends from college and even elementary school! This is a very pretty area, half urban and half rural. You don't have to go far to find forests and lovely little towns and villages. We began our stay by taking a really nice cruise on the Connecticut River, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant. The next day, Dorothy drove us around the various colleges in the area, including her alma mater U Mass, to the Yankee Candle store, to lunch at a great bar/cafe in a little town (Mary-jo had a "breakfast pizza"), then to the "Bridge of Flowers" in Shelburne Falls, to the Mineral Hills Winery and finally to Connie's home for lasagna and lemon pie! We did it all in one day! It was very hard to leave. We had a great time but were saddened to leave our longtime friend behind. California won't be the same without her.
