We blew into Texas on Sunday - literately. When we left Tucumcari, AZ the wind was blowing 60-70 miles an hour. 5-hours later we were pushed into Lubbock TX, where we spent the night. We watched the 49er game (sigh) & then drove another 5 hours to Burnet (BURN-it) TX. We choose this "Hill Country" location because it's the Wine Country of Texas. The weather is much warmer than we've experienced in Arizona & New Mexico - in the 60's - Yea! We spent a little over a month in Arizona & New Mexico and glad we did. Such amazing canyons, valleys, monoliths, ruins, vistas & views! Renee did a beautiful job capturing the area with her photos. Be sure to take a look and read her gallery notes.
It was sad to see how depressed the area is and how the small towns on Rt. 66 are just barely hanging on. Gallup & Tucumcari we wouldn't recommend more than an overnight stay. But we definitely would recommend vacation-time in either State. The best little historic 66 town was Williams, AZ.
We'll be in Texas through the end of the year. Spending Christmas & New Years in San Antonio. Look for more photos!
