10/30/2017 Email announcement of permanent 7.2 ppb dioxane residential cleanup standard... (down from 85 ppb)
This update is to inform you that the 1,4-dioxane Rule package specific to the residential drinking water criterion was promulgated on October 20, 2017, and is effective immediately. A copy of the Cleanup Criteria Requirements for Response Activity Rules that incorporates this revision for 1,4-dioxane is available on the DEQ's Generic Cleanup Criteria Wep page.
With the promulgation of the 1,4-dioxane Rule package, the MDEQ will soon begin the formal process for the proposed comprehensive cleanup criteria rules package.
We appreciate the continued input from stakeholders since we made the proposed comprehensive rule package available for public informal review in August 2017. To date, the MDEQ has hosted three of the four public information sessions to provide opportunities for the public to learn and ask questions regarding the comprehensive cleanup criteria rule package. Details regarding dates and times for the fourth public information session, the public hearing, and formal public comment period will be communicated in the coming weeks.

SRSW appreciates the DEQ's hard work to finally get this tighter dioxane cleanup standard permanently in place seven years after the US EPA's 2010 tighter dioxane guidelines were promugated. Next steps will be to get Gelman/Pall/Danaher to agree to cleanup to the new standard and incorporate the new standard in the Consent Judgment and Permit.
