Other Contamination Found in Deepest Aquifer
Special test results made public this month show detectable levels of other contaminates at Gelman site monitoring wells in the deepest (E) aquifer.
[12/7/2001-Analytical reports (Matrix Environmental)]
Here is a summary of the results:
10/18/01 MW-65d (in front of Pall plant)
m,p-Xylene 1 ug/L
Naphthalene 2 ug/L
Toluene 1 ug/L
10/18/01 MW-68 (south of Pall plant)
Toluene 1 ug/L
10/18/01 MW-71 (east of First Sister Lake)
1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene 1 ug/L
1,3,5-Trimethylbenzene 2 ug/L
Benzene 2 ug/L
Ethylbenzene 6 ug/L
m,p-Xylene 17 ug/L
n-Propylbenzene 2 ug/L
Naphthalene 25 ug/L
o-Xylene 16 ug/L
Toluene 14 ug/L
11/30/01 MW-30d (NW of First Sister Lake)
Toluene 2 ug/L
12/6/01 MW-72 (inside I-94 curve at Jackson Ave)
Toluene 2 ug/L
While these results might be within standards acceptable to the DEQ, they do show that even pollutants less mobile than 1,4-dioxane have made their way off the Gelman property and all the way down the the lowest aquifers.
These finding reinforce SRSW's position that much more investigation needs to be done to define the lateral and vertical extent of the contamination at the Gelman site, which way the contamination is moving and how fast.
