October 18, 2010 -- Today's Status Conference on Pall/Gelman's proposal to reduce cleanup activities will be held in Judge Donald Shelton's chambers... away from public scrutiny.
As covered in previous posts, Pall's proposal would allow Pall to terminate its cleanup activities in the Evergreen area even though there is evidence that 1,4-dioxane may be moving north or northeast through that area towards Barton Pond where Ann Arbor gets 80% of its water.
Pall's continued push to allow more dioxane to spread at up to 2800ppb is especially ironic given that the US EPA recently proposed stricter standards for 1,4-dioxane in groundwater, which if the MDNRE (former MDEQ) follows through, will reduce Michigan's current 85ppb cleanup standard for dioxane to 3.5ppb... almost back to the pre-1995 standard of 3ppb.
