Public Hearing on Pall's Discharge Permit
From MDEQ Public Notice 2/15/2002:
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality proposes to modify a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit issued to: Pall Life Sciences, Inc. (formerly Gelman Sciences, Inc.), located at 600 South Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103. The applicant is engaged in a groundwater remediation. The applicant discharges treated groundwater to an unnamed tributary of Honey Creek, Scio Township, Washtenaw County.
A Public Hearing with the Office of the Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is being held to seek additional public input on the proposed modification of the discharge permit issued to Pall Life Sciences, Inc. This hearing will be held on March 18, 2002 (Monday) at 7:00 P.M. at the Scio Township Hall, 827 North Zeeb Road, Ann Arbor.
The draft permit includes the following modifications to the previously issued permit: an increase in the authorized effluent flow rate (from 1,152,000 gallons per day to 1,872,000 gallons per day); a new monitoring requirement for oxalic acid; a new short term waste characterization study for acetic acid and methoxyacetic acid; the requirement for "Analysis for Intermediate Breakdown Compounds" has been deleted from the permit, because it has been replaced with the chemical specific monitoring requirements described above.
Persons desiring information regarding the draft permit or procedures for commenting, should contact: Alec Malvetis, Permits Section, Surface Water Quality Division, Department of Environmental Quality, P.O. Box 30273, Lansing, Michigan, 48909, telephone: 517-335-4124, e-mail: malvetia@michigan.gov
This draft permit authorizes an increased loading of pollutants to the unnamed tributary of Honey Creek.
