Here is some of the news from the Pall-Gelman November report packet:
VIOLATION OF THE NEW 60 PPB DAILY MAXIMUM AND 10 PPB MONTHLY AVERAGE.
On Oct 24 at about 10:30 pm, a power surge caused the lamps to shut down in the new core treatment systems UV-2A and UV-2B, but the system controls did not notify anyone. The UV-2B system continued to pump untreated water from the red pond to the green pond and thence to the tributary discharge until 6:30 am on Oct 25, when an operator first noticed the problem.
The levels being discharged were as high as 700 ppb, about 12 times the new, higher daily discharge limit of 60 ppb recently set by DEQ Director Russ Harding (see previous news). The discharge also caused the monthly average to be 19.6 ppb which exceeded the monthly limit of 10 ppb.
