About SCOH

Our Purpose

To promote, encourage and educate on local, national and international levels in order to foster fellowship, interest and safe participation in the sport of soaring.

The Soaring Club of Houston is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with an educational outreach program that works closely with the Civil Air Patrol.

We are financially healthy - our land and most of our assets fully paid for - and a sizable cash cushion to deal with emergencies.

We have 180 members - SCOH is the 4th largest glider club in the U.S. The large membership reduces the frequency of duty rotation. SCOH has a very democratic, participatory club with the leadership shared by a large group of elected leaders and specialty “chiefs”.

SCOH is an active chapter of the Soaring Society of America.

Members are able to schedule club gliders online - weeks in advance.

We are a friendly bunch - come on out and visit us!

Property

We have a very generous-sized 90 acre property, including many acres of undeveloped land that is available for future expansion.

For safety and convenience, we have three parallel runways flanked by a 100’ safety zone.

We provide land for and encourage private hangars. With 20 at present we have room for many more.

Soaring Conditions

Longest Cross Country flight from SCOH is more than 500 miles. Far enough from the coast to avoid most marine air issues.

West of the busy Houston airspace - plenty of open airspace to the north, south, and west.

Operating year round with soaring conditions in nearly all months of the year.

Very active group of cross country and competition pilots.
