  August Weather

The August soaring weather in the SCOH task area is not quite up to the legendary Uvalde, TX standards, but it is remarkably close. As shown by the last several years of OLC flights from SCOH and the Greater Houston Soaring Association (GHSA), our sister Houston club, flights of 300 to 500 km are common and flights of 500 km to 800 km are possible. Maximum heights are typically 5000 to 7000 ft., with heights over 9000 ft. to the NW possible. Lift is normally well marked by cu’s, with frequent nice cloud streeting. Task are typically set for the SW to W to NW quadrant
