SCOH only uses aerotow for launching gliders but there are three methods:

1. Aerotow

2. Ground launch

3. Self launch

There are two methods of Ground Launch

1. Auto

2. Winch

Self Launch

Self launching gliders have engines that allow the glider to launch itself without the help of a tow plane, auto or winch. Some engines, like the one pictured below, remain in the fuselage and only the propeller extends.
