The Well-Tempered Clavier (WTC) can be seen as a representation of the ups and downs we all experience in life due to the way it alternates between major and minor pieces. Our concert series invites to a walk with Bach through his joys and sorrows, and to reflect upon our own happiness and misfortune.

But why should we walk with Bach? Bach’s music speaks with a calming tone that can help one be in touch with our extreme emotions without allowing them to take over. This is quite different to Beethoven—the hero who calls us to arms and inspires us to fight on, whose 250th birthday we celebrated in 2020. Sometimes we need a respite from those heroic struggles. The two books of the WTC are separated by twenty years, and listening to both of them can reveal how Bach himself moved on from being an impassioned young man to a wise master.

Stephen Hung graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London. Apart from his studies in piano, he also received training on the harpsichord and organ. He is especially drawn to the music of J. S. Bach and previous performances include the complete 2-part and 3-part inventions, Book 2 of the WTC, and a number of Jukebox concerts.

人生路上有喜有悲，我們則各自用不同的方法應對這些情緒上的波動，可惜有時候波幅太大而影響生活。巴哈的《平均律》遊走於大調與小調之間，猶如描寫著生活中的喜怒哀樂。然而巴哈的音樂帶有一種平和的語調，其作品《平均律》更仿佛在引領我們跟隨這位作曲家體驗生活的點滴，並在經歷情緒起伏時給予我們安然面對的力量，讓我們調節情緒。

《平均律》分上、下兩集：巴哈寫成上集時，風華正茂，平和中略帶點豪氣；相隔二十年後寫成下集，卻已經是位閱歷豐富的大師，跟上集對比，更能顯出歲月的滄桑。讓我們借此機會一起感受一下巴哈的世界觀。

熊韋皓 | 畢業於英國皇家音樂學院鋼琴系，並曾學習彈奏古鍵琴及管風琴。他特別熱衷於巴哈的音樂，過去的演出曲目包括巴哈的整套二聲部及三聲部練習曲、《平均律》下集及「巴哈點唱機」。除了以傳統的方式表演，熊氏亦積極探索以其他形式把音樂帶給聽眾，於2018及2019年曾數次與視覺藝術家愛卡合作上演《兔仔的圖象琴譜》。
