蕭邦與李斯特的奇妙關係

蕭邦與李斯特年紀相若,兩人在1830年代的巴黎均十分受歡迎,並有相當的交情。話說蕭邦寫好了他的十二首練習曲之後,李斯特有一日到訪並把蕭邦的練習曲彈得出神入化。兩人當時正在草議一封聯名的信,蕭邦在信中提及說:「如果我能夠似李斯特這樣彈琴就好了。」究竟這是蕭邦片面之詞抑或是真心對李斯特的讚賞?

音樂會將同場獻上蕭邦的十二首練習曲以及李斯特自己的練習曲(包括改編自帕格尼尼的《鐘》及原創的《晚賴》),籍兩人的音樂帶出他們的性格,從而讓觀眾判斷蕭邦與李斯特的交情到底是建基於甚麼東西。

The Curious Relationship of Chopin and Liszt

Born just a year apart, Chopin and Liszt were both highly popular figures of Paris in the 1830s. In fact they lived within a few blocks of each other and met frequently. One day, when Liszt cam over to write a joint letter to a mutual friend, he played through Chopin's Op. 10 studies. This prompted Chopin to comment in the letter "I should like to rob him of the way he plays my studies."

Needless to say, Chopin and Liszt's relationship cannot be defined through one individual remark. This concert presents Chopin's Op. 10 studies along with Liszt's La campanella and Harmonies du soir, in an attempt to give the audience an opportunity to evaluate, through their music, the two composers' personalities and the nature of their friendship.
