5. Gases and Atmospheric Chemistry

Figure F.1 - Boil's law comic strip

In this unit students will be able to analyse the components and effects of air pollution. They will also be able to investigate where air pollution comes from and relate this to reducing their own carbon footprint. Students will also learn of the gas laws (i.e. Boyle's law, Charles' law, Gay-Lussac's law, the combined gas law, Dalton's law of partial pressures, and the ideal gas law) and how to perform appropriate calculations. Finally, students will understand how these gas laws are applied and what types of theories apply to these laws through understanding the kinetic molecular theory and performing an investigation.
