Valley Forge is located in the Southeastern corner of Pennsylvania, around 25 miles away from Northern Philadelphia. Here was were the Continental Army camp during the winter of 177-1778. Here was when the army prepared, when it became a real army. George Washington choose to stay here because of two reasons. First, because it was close to Philadelphia, were the British were camping. This was an advantage because he could keep an eye on the British. Second, because if the British wanted to attack he had plenty of time to do something.
There were two mountains and a river in Valley Forge. Mount Joy, Mount Misery, and Schuylkill River. The two mountains were high areas that had fortifications and the river helped as a barrier to the North. As you see, these were good things, but there were bad things as well. The conditions that the colonists had to past were really bad. They had to deal with cold, wet, and snowy climate. Some of them didn't have warm clothes nor shoes. There were a couple of blankets and they were often hungry because it was winter and the food was hard to get.
Interesting facts:
This picture, shows when George Washington is on a horse and the others have different things in their hands. Washington is going in the lead and the others are like going to follow them. At this moment they are at Valley Forge. In this picture, the soldiers are well dressed, but as we know, some of them didn't have shoes or warm clothes. I chose this picture because you can see how was Valley Forge. On the back, you see the little houses that they built and that they make fires so that the could stay warm. You see that the soldiers are welled-dressed but you also see that they were passing through a bad condition.
As I told you before, Valley Forge is still standing today. This is how it looks today, and it's called Valley Forge National History Park (VFNHP). It's so cool how all of what the colonists built is standing today. Some of the houses on the VFNHP you can go in but others are closed to the public. The interesting thing about this national park is that outside of the houses they get dressed like in the Revolutionary War time and they start to act out what happened n Valley Forge. In the acts, they explain everything to children and as well they get entertained. If i go to Phily, I would want to go to VFNHP.
I chose this video because it shows really well how was Valley Forge and how did the colony use it. You see what the colonists were happening and the diseases that they had. Also, how that found a cure to the diseases. Most of them will die of hunger too. I liked this video because while the video is playing it is giving you an explanation of what was happening.
