The Battle of Yorktown began in September 28, 1871. In the south, General Nathanael Greene, took the command of the Continental Army in the South. In the British army, Lord Charles Cornwallis was in charge. There was a battle going on in the South. It was not going well for the Americans, but General Nathanael put in some new tactics, that cause the Americans to win. This caused the British to go to the East Coast.
As the same time the British were going East, General George Washington was marching his army from the North to the East. The French defeated the British, so they started to move to Yorktown. So, the French, the Americans, and the British all gathered in Yorktown. There were more Americans and French than the British, so the British was outnumbered. For three weeks, the Americans bombared the British, day and night. On October 17, 1871, Cornwallis surrendered. This document was called the Articles of Capitulation. On October 19, was the ceremony of surreder, but Cornwallis did't go because of an illiness. So, Cornwallis sen General O'Hara that carried Cornwallis's sword.
This picture represents when the British surrendered. In the picture, you see the French, the Americans, and the British. The British are in the middle, the Americans on the left, and the French on the right. As you see in the picture, there are more French and more Americans than the British. What I see in the picture is that the French and the Americans are paying attention. They are active because if something happens they could be the first ones to act. But, the British are like... ok, we surrender, I don't want to fight anymore...What do you see?
In this picture, you will see George Washington. George Washington was the leader of the French. He was an important person becaus he was the leader of the French. Washington had the most military expirience from the group but he had never commanded a large army, and he got to success even though he had low experience. Washington was clever, and that is why he had many success in some oft the battles.
This video is kind of a modern version of what it happened. Let mi explain myself.. While it is showing everything that happened in the battle it also gives you a summary. Even though it gives you a summary and it shows you what is happening... they interview some people ftom the village. That is why I say it is modern because in those times the journalists didn't stop in the village and ask people for their opinion. Either way, I don't think there were journalist in those times.
