Seminar
Sound Designer/ Engineer
Set in Present Day NYC, Seminar follows four writers and there instructor during an 10 week writing seminar. The Instructor has some unorthodox teaching methods that has some struggle while other's find success.
For our production, we wanted to emphasize the idea of writing throughout the different design elements. For the Sound Design, I wanted to create custom music for the scene changes that kept with this motief. To to this, I created a custom Virtual Instrument by recording a Typewriter I owned and programming the instrument. This would become the percussion for the musical segments that I put together.
The other challenge was the last scene change of the show. It is the only scene change in which we are changing the location, from Kate's upper west side apartment to Leonard's Apartment. During the change, a wall opens up and a large set piece comes into place. I put together a Music/Sound Atmosphere sequence that matched the movement of the huge set piece. I timed it out so that certain sounds would time out to land with the movement of the set. It never got old to watch the Main set piece to land exactly with the appropriate sound effect.
