Pug Reno
My Renovation (NOT restoration) of a late '70s Peugeot.
A while back I rescued a wheel-less late '70s Peugeot from a scrap metal heap, don't know much about them, but I'm pretty sure it's not anything special.
I quickly threw a set of old wheels on it and, because I am not a sports cyclist, swapped the handlebars for a Japanese one with brake levers with extension "suicide" levers... suits my riding.
Well, it was not the most pleasant ride, turned out that the left crank was twisted and bent, posted about the crank here http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=77834 hoping to get some advice about what I could do about the bent french crank, but no luck.
Bought a lot of 5 bikes for $10 on eBay because there was an old white Pug amongst them, turned out that it was a smaller frame with different/shorter cranks, but at least the headset and rear derailleur could be canibalised for parts.
Eventually gave up on finding a straight replacement crank, did some more research and after much measuring ended up getting a "5N" square taper axle and cleaning up an old japanese chrome crankset to put on it, at least the chrome will make it look period correct from a distance.
At that point I was happy that it would be ridable, so I started attacking the rest of the bike:
Rust will be removed from chrome, alloy will be polished, paint will recieve touch-ups, moving stuff will be greased and some old bits will be replaced with new red bits.
The aim will be to end up with an old bike that will look ok from a distance.
The dirty, rusty old Pug
Bent and twisted crank.
Goodbye french bits.
Frame cleaned... way too many scratches on it so the paint will receive touch-ups.
Frame wirebrushed, wet sanded and scotch padded
Primer over the worst spots.
Didn't take pics of all the parts as I cleaned and polished, but here is the rear "MAFAC RACER" brake done.
Primer sanded and touched up with just enough white to give an even base for the final paint, decals masked and frame Scotch pad scuffed.
Thanks for looking
Time for another update.
All the white has now been painted on frame and fork.
I like chrome, so even though the fork originally had the bottom half of the crown painted white, I stripped the crown so that it is now all chrome, not mirror smooth chrome, but chrome nonetheless.
Still have to touch-up the decals on the fork and top tube, then it will be clearcoat time.
Rebuilt the pedals, rear brake and the shifters.

I'm am surprised at how nice the old pug is looking, so much so that I now feel that a couple of parts are letting down the rest of the bike, so......
One of the pedal was missing the cap, if anyone has a spare they would let go, please let me know.
And if anyone has an old plastic bodied Simplex front derailleur that is cracked (from what I read, most of them are) that has a chain guide in better condition than mine they would let go, please let me know.
Thanks for looking.
