Original Slam Poem by SECHS student, Ashleigh Tilley:
To prepare for our awesome Poetry Slam, there are two things you'll need to do:
Group Poem Project
Individual Poem Project
Individual
For the Individual component, you'll want to choose a famous poem using the provided websites, a poem from a book Mr. Chilton brings in, ofrom the list of awesome poets (otherwise, just ask approval please), or you are more than welcome to write your own!
See this link for further info or this document for a list of poets.
Prepare a "creative visualization" for your reading/reciting of it on Thursday--take what you learned from your creative visualization on Shakespeare's Sonnets to help you create your own poem's interpretation.
Group
For the Group component, you'll want to get with some of your poetic friends in groups of 3-4, cooperatively search for the perfect group poem (based on common interest, ability to interpret it together, etc.), decide on the right one, and create a video visualization/interpretation of the poem.
You may use MovieMaker, Animoto, Photostory, or any other video software you wish. Suggested to have poem subtitles, but not required, what is required is that your audio is crystal clear for the reading of the poem.
For both projects, some key reminders:
Presentations are in class, therefore due at beginning of class
Make sure audio is clear, unobtrusive subtitles recommended, but not required
Make any videos PC compatible, Windows formatted
Use my recommended websites, books, and authors or get it approved please...
Extra Credit on either component if memorized (recommended, but not required)--would be easy to do for group part of project (everyone memorize a little bit of it...if you know what I mean...)
Grades based on 4Cs rubric
Question: Theme? Invite guest? Location?
